CTools project sites to become read-only: Support available for Michigan Medicine employees

May 8, 2018  //  FOUND IN: Updates & Resources

For more than a decade, the U-M community has used project sites in CTools for file storage and collaboration. With the increased availability and expanded capabilities of other collaboration tools, combined with declining CTools usage, please be advised that the university is retiring CTools.

CTools sites will become read-only on Aug. 31. This means site content can be viewed and downloaded, but not modified. Exemptions to read-only status will be made for sites that contain export controlled data. Other exemption requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Michigan Medicine employees who maintain content in CTools are invited to attend an upcoming migration clinic. Staff will provide one-on-one assistance to migrate your content out of CTools. The clinics will take place on:

  • Wednesday, May 23: 1 p.m. – 4 p.m., Taubman Health Sciences Library (Room 5219)
  • Thursday, July 19: 1 p.m. – 4 p.m., NCRC Building 18 (Room 122)

Information and Technology Services is helping project site owners transition CTools project sites to alternative services, including developing a self-service tool that allows them to export content they want and store it locally or upload into the platform that best fits their needs for ongoing collaboration and file sharing. The tool also allows them to easily delete sites they no longer need.

Visit the project website to learn how to move or delete CTools project sites, review FAQs and find training resources.
