Gifts of Art presents Water’s Presence: Landscapes in Oil

July 31, 2018  //  FOUND IN: Updates & Resources

One of the pieces now on display in the Rogel Cancer Center.

Cathy VanVoorhis’ oil landscape paintings represent her experience of the healing power of nature.

VanVoorhis — a lecturer at the U-M Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design — travels to lakes, rivers and streams to witness the ecology and beauty of the natural coastlines of Michigan. She finds inspiration in the writing of naturalists such as Rachel Carson, and the understanding of the intricate web of all life.

A series of VanVoorhis’ paintings is now on display at Michigan Medicine and focuses on the healing. This beautiful element can bring a meditative calm and inner peace, as one feels a connection to the timeless forces of life.
