Update: Enhancements made to U-M careers website

Beginning today, Information Technology and Services — in conjunction with HR Recruiting & Employment Services — is rolling out some enhancements to assist applicants and departments in the hiring process.

New look to applicant pages

The webpages that appear after clicking “Apply Now” from the U-M Careers website will be more mobile-friendly and responsive, along with a new look and feel. The new, streamlined application eliminates the degrees and preferences sections in addition to the comments section that appear when the applicant answers “Yes” to the nepotism or conflict of interest questions. Departments should review the submitted resume for education information. An improved Applicant Summary Report now displays the Yes/No answers to the nepotism and conflict of interest questions.

New background check vendor selected

HireRight will replace General Information Services (GIS) as the background vendor at the university. The transition to the new background check vendor should be transparent and seamless to departments and applicants. HireRight offers the university additional features that will assist in filling the gaps identified with national criminal records. HireRight also has an increased communication ability to hiring departments for background screenings using vendor-automated notifications. Departments will need to update any documentation or communication materials that reference GIS to reference HireRight instead. The planned implementation date for the new background check vendor is Oct. 3.
